Research! Ideally, I want to learn a lot about what I can expect from the animal's behavior and movements, even diet.

Oh, skeletons... can eat?

They like to play with food, like some will chew on bones or try to catch fish even though they can't eat.

Oh... so, do they... remember being alive?

[bowtiedbones]

Not fully. I don't work with specific souls, so they don't have their own memories of being alive, but they have enough knowledge to act how a live animal would. Their instincts and habits are in place.

That's interesting! So you... use the skeletons and... subfossils, to learn about... the species at large...?

[bowtiedbones]

Yeah! These are animals that have died hundreds of years ago, but we can still observe them.

[squirms slightly. bounces a single small bounce.]

[scuffs her toe over the chalk line around her bed, smearing it, then claps her hands cheerfully]

Lori, wake up! Someone wants to meet you.

[on cue, the little skeleton pops its head up, shaking off cotton balls]

Oh—! Amazing!

That's is Lori. Her bones are over 700 years old.

[Lori bobs her head curiously, recognizing her name, then climbs out to perch on the edge of the tupperware and stretch her bony wings]

Hello, Lori...

[the dragon bobs her head even more excitedly. yes! i am lori! that is me!]

Hold still and she might climb up your arm. She likes to sit on shoulders.

[holding very very still]

[Lori takes a couple seconds to stretch herself, arching catlike and spreading her wings before starting up Katsura's arm. she has four legs, but her front arms are small and kept tucked against her chest, instead clambering along with her wings like a bat.]

She's a flower-drake. They feed on nectar and fruit.

[Lori sits herself down on Katsura's shoulder, holding on with her little claws and with her long tail outstretched behind her for balance, twisting her head around to watch Katsura and then Eliza]

[Lori starts preening, clacking her parrotlike beak along her rib bones]

She is! There's some larger kinds, but flower-drakes are some of the smallest dragons.
