Oh. I'm curious because I never cared much about gods before.

[personal profile] noyolo 2017-06-08 03:21 pm (UTC)(link)
What are your world's gods like? Distant, I imagine.
pruriency: (023)

[personal profile] pruriency 2017-06-08 10:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes. Distant enough that no one can agree on what to believe on.

[personal profile] noyolo 2017-06-09 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Ah. I can see how that would cause problems. I've spoken to some of mine, directly. I was once killed by the avatar of one. So.

[personal profile] pruriency 2017-06-09 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
We come from very different worlds.

[personal profile] noyolo 2017-06-09 07:34 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it seems so.
pruriency: (086)

[personal profile] pruriency 2017-06-09 07:44 am (UTC)(link)
Why were you killed that time? Or is it a sensitive subject?

[personal profile] noyolo 2017-06-09 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
Ah... to summarize, I was traveling with a very close companion when we came across a powerful artefact. It was the Iron Crown, created by Barodhan, a god who governs tyranny, war and torment. ... Before I had realized what had happened he had been consumed by Barodhan's influence and power, and he killed me.

[Hana gets distracted by that expression for a moment.]

I'm sorry, it sounds like it was a painful experience.

[personal profile] noyolo 2017-06-09 02:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I was stabbed four times. It was not ideal.
pruriency: (080)

[personal profile] pruriency 2017-06-10 04:17 am (UTC)(link)
That's a lot of stabbing . . .

[personal profile] noyolo 2017-06-10 05:47 am (UTC)(link)
The first time was fatal and the remaining three were to kill time.
pruriency: (086)

[personal profile] pruriency 2017-06-10 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
[Awkward.]

Did that person reincarnate, too?

[personal profile] noyolo 2017-06-11 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
That's an interesting question, because in a sense everyone in my world reincarnates, although not all of them have the capacity to remember previous incarnations and of those who do, not all of them actually remember.
pruriency: (076)

[personal profile] pruriency 2017-06-11 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
What makes you able to remember?
noyolo: (pic#5070410)

[personal profile] noyolo 2017-06-11 04:56 am (UTC)(link)
It is a unique quality of a Daeva soul that we do not lose memories in between incarnations.
pruriency: (069)

[personal profile] pruriency 2017-06-11 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
A Daeva soul?

[personal profile] noyolo 2017-06-11 06:22 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, ah... souls that used to— well, still do, really— belong to stars. That's the name for us.
pruriency: (028)

[personal profile] pruriency 2017-06-11 06:55 am (UTC)(link)
[That face is distracting.]

That sounds very important.

[personal profile] noyolo 2017-06-11 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, when I describe it I make it sound very lofty and exalted, but rest assured that for thousands of us in practice it means nothing more than having unusual birthmarks and being more insightful than most people.
pruriency: (034)

[personal profile] pruriency 2017-06-11 07:15 am (UTC)(link)
Does that mean there's thousands of people who can potentially remember their past lives?

[personal profile] noyolo 2017-06-11 07:22 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes. My case is unusual— hundreds of years ago the original Shining Champion created a legacy that has spanned every lifetime since. But there are many, many Daevas who live normal lives, with an occasional odd nostalgia or sense of familiarity.

[personal profile] pruriency 2017-06-11 08:50 am (UTC)(link)
Mmm, I wonder if there's a book about your world's general history. What happened back then with the original Shining Champion?
noyolo: (pic#5102609)

[personal profile] noyolo 2017-06-11 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps there is. I am beginning to believe it would be in the fantasy section...

Ah. The original Shining Champion was a gladiator. Well, to be more accurate she was first a rebel, fighting against the Celvain Empire from within. She was arrested and ... well, instead of direct execution in those days, they would throw the convicted into fighting pits, usually against monsters, until they eventually died.

She did not die. She won, and won, and won. Eventually the people who watched these fights began to call her the Champion, and then later the Shining Champion. But she was still a prisoner, and she and her fellow rebels were still trapped.

One night, though, when the moon was full, she had a very vivid, very clear dream. It showed her the location of a safe place— an old temple, ruined but still usable, originally dedicated to Aislinn, the goddess of the Moon. When she awoke, she saw a lady dressed in silver outside the bars of her cell for just a moment... and found the cell door unlocked.

Before the morning came all the prisoners had escaped the prison and made their way to the temple she saw in her dream. There, they would defend themselves from the Empire's guards until the Empire was forced to concede and leave them alone. And their descendants have lived there ever since.

How did that change things for the future reincarnations?
