So the Champion was betrayed by their own lover because of this artifact.

I would not have called them lovers. It was unrequited. Unspoken. Although I doubt it would have made any difference. Of course, while he—I— had certainly been killed before, this time it felt more personal, and so over the next four lifetimes— very short lifetimes, I should mention— the Champion focused on vengeance rather than trying to prevent harm.

And it moved your soul further away from that goal.

Yes, I think so. But the lives after that death were obsessed with it. All of them only wanted revenge, or to save their friend, and so none of them would have wanted to forget. And now, of course, I have that life lesson. Whatever I choose to take from it.

Again, you don't have to answer, but— Did any of them get their revenge?

It depends on how you would define it. One of them eventually killed the thing their friend became. But by then the world had been ravaged.

Though we share the same soul, and many of the same memories, the Shining Champion's life and my own are separate. It should not be difficult to speak of it, so I have no reason to hide it.

Though I may have been presumptuous about how much their lives affected your thoughts.
